Challenges
How do you rebuild trust while repositioning an industry organisation?
STM wanted to refresh its identity and use the rebrand as a catalyst for the reappraisal of both the organisation and the industry it represents. Alongside a new visual identity, the objective was to establish a more assertive communications approach that would shift activity from reactive to proactive, helping rebuild trust with a broad range of audiences and stakeholders.

Approach
By combining strategic branding with a more proactive communications programme.
Working as a collaborative team, the seven Pimento agencies delivered the rebrand on time and on budget. The project included a new corporate identity, a new tagline—"Advancing Trusted Research"—and comprehensive brand guidelines featuring a more contemporary colour palette.
Alongside the rebrand, the team developed a communications strategy and channel plan focused on proactive engagement. Campaigns included The Covid Research Story and an opinion piece on Fake Science, both designed to support STM's renewed communications approach.

Results
A rebrand that strengthened awareness and rebuilt confidence.
STM commented that "The rebrand and comms activity has given the STM its mojo back, moving from reactive to proactive comms, building confidence and unearthing stories to rebuild trust."
The programme contributed to a 300% increase in website traffic, a significant increase in unique visitors and wider exploration of the new STM website. Members of the SCC secured media space valued at nearly $850,000, helping to drive awareness and traffic to campaign landing pages.
The communications activity also generated 18 pieces of coverage across 12 media outlets, reaching a 3.8 billion readership, 2.9 million views and 361 social shares.
